Group Play Therapy

Benefits of Group Play Therapy Eimear O Reilly

Group therapy has many benefits for children presenting with various concerns.

Group Play Therapy offers children a safe space to share their experiences and feelings with other children with similar concerns or diagnoses. I use the same therapeutic approaches with both groups and individual clients, including:

  • Clay therapy

  • Sandplay therapy

  • Art therapy

  • Games

  • Relaxation techniques

Group therapy allows for me, as therapist, to observe relational interactions. I can gently draw attention to feelings and emotional content, with the aim of improving client’s self-awareness and empathy skills.

Who can attend?

  • Group Play Therapy usually runs for a minimum of 6 sessions, however more sessions are often needed

  • Group Play therapy works best for small groups of three to four children

  • Group Play therapy is most suitable for children of similar ages with similar presenting concerns such as:
